WCU FAQs: Writing and Tutoring Help

Tutor.com is a free service for WCU students and can be accessed via Canvas, within your course sections.  A minimum balance of 50 minutes is required to use the Drop-off Essay Review service. For Resume and Cover Letter Drop-off Review, a minimum of 35 minutes is required.  Students have a total duration of 90 minutes per month. The duration starts from the first day of the month and ends on the last day of the month. If the month's full 90 minutes are not used, students lose that time (i.e., there is no roll-over). 

Please follow these steps to access Tutor.com:

1. From the Canvas dashboard, click on any of your courses ("Course Card").                                          

2. Once inside your course, select the Tutor.com link on the left-hand side menu.

3. You should now see a page that looks like this. If you click on "Connect with a Tutor Now" you can see how much time you have remaining from your 90-minute per month allotment and also connect with a tutor immediately.                            

4. Fill out the "What do you need help with today" section to connect with a tutor in your subject area immediately. Other Tutor.com options include: "Schedule a Session," "Drop Off Your Work," or "Test Prep and Self-Study."  Under "My Account" you can find information such as past tutor session transcripts. For instructions on how to schedule a future session and connect with a tutor on tutor.com, please visit https://www.tutor.com/cmspublicfiles/WWW/scheduled-session-infographic.gif.                                         

Notes about using "Submit a Paper for Review":

• Please allow tutor.com AT LEAST 12 hours to review your paper and provide you with feedback.
• Use of the "Drop Off Essay Review Service" requires that you have AT LEAST 50 minutes remaining from your monthly allotment of 90 minutes. For Resume and Cover Letter Drop-off Review, a minimum of 35 minutes is required. For more information please visit this document.
