Research Help Question

Q: I bookmarked a link to an article, but it no longer works. How do I find the article again?

Research Help Answer

A:

You likely cannot view the article because most URL links for articles in databases are only valid while on the page.

Bookmarking the page, saving the URL, using the "Add to folder" button, or the  option are all temporary ways of saving the article and are no longer valid once you leave the database page.

To avoid this problem, we suggest that you use the built in e-mail function to send a copy of the article to yourself.

If your invalid link was to something on the library website, it is likely that you encountered a similar saved/bookmarked link or url issue.

The  button at the bottom of the article's box is temporary and your saved article will disappear once you log out of your library account.

We suggest that you send a link of the article to yourself by clicking on the  icon and entering your email address in the "Email Address(es)" field.  Now you will have a direct link to the article.

If you find yourself with a link that no longer works, here are some tips to try and recover the article:

  • If you know which database your article came from, you can go to the A-Z Database List and click the link for the appropriate database.
  • If you remember the keywords or search terms you used to find the article, you can try to repeat the search.
  • If you have any information about the article (Date, Author, Journal Name, etc.), you can use these to try and find your lost article.
