Research Help Question

Q: How do I search all databases at the same time?

Research Help Answer

A:
Although it is not possible to search every database at the same time, there are a few ways to search many of them simultaneously.

  • To search for books, ebooks and thousands of articles, you can use the large search bar on the library catalog homepage.  This will search all of WCU library's physical books and ebooks, as well as the largest databases, such as EBSCOhost and ProQuest.

  • If you are using an EBSCOhost database, such as Academic Search Complete or CINAHL Plus with Full Text, it is possible to search most of the EBSCO databases simultaneously.  Just above the search boxes, you will see the name of the database and next to it is a link, "Choose Databases". Here you can click the box next to “Select / deselect all” at the top of the page. This will allow you to search within many of the EBSCOhost databases at the same time.

There are also some databases in the A-Z Database list which are not accessible through the “Search Everything” box or EBSCO. Some of these include Dynamed, Nursing Reference Center Plus, Opposing Viewpoints (Gale in Context), Academic Videos Online, Natural Medicines, and Lexicomp.
To use these databases, select them individually from the A-Z Database list.
