Library Login and Information Question

Q: What is an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request? How do I make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request?

Library Login and Information Answer

A:

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service for all WCU students, faculty, and staff that allows users to borrow articles and books from other libraries when WCU doesn't have the item you need.

You should make an ILL request if:

  • You need a book (or other physical item) that WCU Library does not have, and you are willing to wait 3 or more weeks for it to arrive at your campus.
  • You need a journal article that WCU Library does not have, and you are willing to wait 3 days-1 week for it to be emailed to you.

Ebooks are typically not available for Interlibrary Loan.

You can request items directly from the online library catalog by finding an item at another library (select the box next to "Libraries Worldwide" when searching instead of "West Coast University Libraries") and clicking the blue "Request Item through Interlibrary Loan" button. Make sure you are logged in to your library account, then fill out the electronic ILL form. You will receive a pick-up notification email when the item is ready.

You may also visit your campus library during open hours to request an item. Present your current West Coast University campus photo ID to staff for assistance.

No fees are charged for Interlibrary Loan requests. Borrowers assume accountability on all print Interlibrary Loan materials. Abuse of Interlibrary Loan will result in fees and/or a loss of library loan privileges. Due dates are strictly enforced.
