APA Question

Q: Where can I find a citation builder or generator?

APA Answer

A:

A good source to consult for building citations and creating bibliographies is RefWorks.  You can find RefWorks in our A-Z Database list.  Some other great options are to use the reference citation examples provided on the library's APA Guide, the APA 7th ed. manual or the APA Style blog.

Many databases and articles will offer links that include citation assistance featuring labels like "Cite this article" or "Cite this." Also, there are many citation exporting websites and software (ie. citationmachine.com, bibme.com, easybib.com) which offer to build your citations for you.

Caution: These formatting tools can only use information based upon how it appears in the digital documentation of the resource, which may not have been entered using the formatting that you need for your citations. For example, if you are using APA style and the article you want to cite is titled "Researching the Links between Heart and Lung Diseases", the citation exporters will not un-capitalize the title. The title should read, "Researching the links between heart and lung disease," in proper APA format.

These shortcut tools could provide you with incorrect citations, so be careful and double-check your citations with a more reliable source.
